I took a poetry course my sophmore year in college and used an antho by XJ Kennedy An Introduction to Poetry. It truly introduced me and I still have the book.

My mother's favorite poet was Robert Creeley ... but I'm not a poet, although I can erotically become one. I'd also like to write country-western lyrics but danged ... it's much easier for me to write novels.
